Summary/Abstract: In the 20th-century Russian literature, the rural theme becomes (with certain variations) one of the main areas of prose. For the culminating stage of realism in the 1950s and the the 1960s, a critical and inexorably true analysis becomes a typical feature (J. Kazakov, V. Soloukhin, A. Pristavkin, C. Aitmatov, V. Belov, J. Nosov, V. Astafyev etc.). The period of strong progress, bloom and a qualitatively new stage is marked especially by the works of the prose writers who came from or spent some time in Siberia (V. Kozhevnikov, A. Jakubovsky, V. Lipatov, V. Astafyev, V. Shukshin, V. Rasputin, etc.).
