Attempts to municipalize the town’s gasworks in Piotrków Trybunalski in the years 1914-1922

Summary/Abstract: Gas industry has always been an important branch of the chemical industry. The gasworks in Piotrków Trybunalski was set up in 1895 by the agreement signed up by three parties: The Joint-Stock Company of Associated Gasworks in Augsburg, The General Governorship in Warsaw and The Government of the Piotrków Province. The gasworks in Piotrków functioned as a private enterprise. During World War I, despite the enormous difficulties it experienced, it nevertheless continued its operations. On July 1st, 1922 an agreement was reached by means of which the gasworks became the property of the municipality of Piotrków.
