Summary/Abstract: The investigation sets the criteria for defining the antonymic relations that exist among the comparative phraseological units in English and Bulgarian. The research analysis is done contrastively in order to outline the resemblances and the differences in respect to the two language system. The present corpus consists of 729 comparative phraseological units in English and 1315 comparative phraseological units in Bulgarian. The antonymic relations are considered to be a proof that the analyzed units form a specific system and are not just multi-word expressions.
