Summary/Abstract: The life of Ferenc Liszt is one of great interest. The article presents many aspects of the religiosity of the great composer. The article analyzes his letters and other publications from 1811 to 1847. In Liszt’s personal life there were great passions and also great tragedies that he survived with the help of religion and personal faith. Liszt’s life was bound to some important European cities such as Rome, Weimar and Budapest. At that time (1861–1866) Rome and Weimar were total opposites concerning the spiritual, religious and musical aspects. Liszt was at home in both and was familiar to the opposite tendencies that he succeeded in combining in his music. His late work is a beautiful testimony to his faith. The oratory entitled “Christus” is the highlight and a summary of his personal belief.
