Summary/Abstract: The economic reforms that began during 1990's primarily influenced the development of foreign trade relations of the Russian Federation. These reasons that conditioned these changes are numerous and are related to political and economic transformations in the Russian Federation, as well as to the changes in the region, changes in the system of international economic relations and global creation of the new world order. Main characteristics of foreign trade reforms in the Russian Federation are the process of national economy opening to outer world, development of international economic relations and strengthening the national manufacturing program. Liberalization of the Russian Federation's foreign trade marked a beginning of market reforms and was one of main priorities in transition process given the aim of Russian economy integration into world economy and international division of labor. Economic liberalization and reorientation of foreign economic activities enabled the Russian Federation to more easily access to Western economic and financial structures but at the cost of high foreign indebtedness. Foreign economic activities have become more opened and presently the Russian Federation has trade relations with over 100 countries worldwide. Regarding volume of global foreign trade turnover, which in 2004 amounted 140 billion USD, Russia was ranked as 20th with 1%-1.5% share in world trade.
