Summary/Abstract: Hausman’s book titled “Essays on Philosophy and Economic Methodology” offers a companion to his paralelly published work “The Inexact and Separate Science of Economics”, and allowed the author to develop and explain certain economic issues in an unrestricted manner. The wide range of topics in the former writing include reflections on the role of John Stuart Mill in the philosophy of economics, discussions of the Popperian agenda and studies on the role of causality in economics. The chapter of this book that was translated for this block clarifies two central concepts. The first is the role of models in economics, while the second is the definition of “equilibrium theory” that is taken to be the core of economic theory throughout Hausman’s work.
