Summary/Abstract: The Museum of Alba Iulia purchased in December 2005 a 17th century hoard consisting of 54 coins (53 flat groschens and 1 dinar) from Mr. Ioan Cătărambă. The coins were issued during the reigns of Princes Gabriel Bethlen (1613-1629) and Matthew II (1698-1619). The pieces were coined at the Baia Mare and Casovia mints. It took 14 years to accumulate the Seusa hoard. The last coin added was a groschen issued by Gabriel Bethlen in 1629, which might indicate that the hoard was buried in 1630.This hoard provides new clues regarding the route of medieval coins through the town of Alba Iulia, across the Alba County and across the entire Transylvania.
