Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to provide a phonetic description of the stressed vowel [a] used in the pronunciation of ten Polish women living in Kokchetav Raion (northern Kazakhstan) in the double-sided context of hard vowels. In the years 1936–1937 the women were deported from Szepetowski, Poskirowski and Volyn Oblasts of the Soviet Ukraine. Acoustic phonetic methods and statistics were used in the research. The pronunciation of the vowel in question has been compared with the relevant realizations in the general Polish, Russian and Ukrainian language.
