Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at providing a phonetic description of oral vowels in the left-, right and bilateral palatal contexts, as pronounced by seven women from Kurpie. Acoustic phonetics methodology has been applied during the analysis of material, and the Praat program was used to measure the formant frequency of vowels. The pronunciation of vowels in the three palatal contexts was juxtaposed against the so-called neutral context (i.e. hard and non-sonorant consonants surrounding). The comparison was made for each speaker separately. The analyses allowed to state that for six women there is a regular and statistically significant fall of F1 and rise of F2 [a] in ja-.
