Summary/Abstract: The change of power in East‑Central Europe after 1990 The first free parliamentary election in East-Central Europe held in 1990, was generally a plebiscite of sort on the communist past (except Bulgaria and Romania). The election was the main element of transformations from the communist states to democracy. From 1990 to 2010 in East‑Central Europe held 36 parliamentary election (including 8 ahead of time). The results of elections are mostly change of power. The party systems are generally fragile and variable (except Czech and Hungary). They are still developing, though they have reached different stages of development. The historical development of various party system in region in the inter‑war period and in communist regimes was also rather different.
