Summary/Abstract: The author examines the development of capital flows in the form of foreign direct investment between Japan and the Republic of Korea within the period of 2000-2010. Both countries receive relatively little investment from abroad but the importance of Japanese investment inflow to Korea is relatively big (currently up to 25-30% of all FDI inflows to Korea), while the importance of Korea in the total FDI inflows to Japan is a marginal (currently around 2%). For both Korea and Japan the market of the partner country is of minor importance in the total foreign investments made abroad. The author of the study indicates the most important factors of an investment relationship development between Japan and Korea, which are, among others: state of the world economy, economic conditions in Japan and Korea, the policy towards FDI and the current state of political relations between countries.
