Summary/Abstract: The author of the article analyses an actual position of Japan in the international merchandise trade. Focusing his attention on the development of export in the period of 2000-2009 he concludes that the position of Japan in the international trade is weakening. This is because of influence of a lot of factors, e.g.: economic condition of the Japanese and world economy, globalization and regionalization, Japanese trade policy and changes in a balance of power in the world economy.
