Summary/Abstract: Ponidzie is the name of the land deeply embedded into local residents’ minds. This term describes an area with a specific history and culture, but also with a special essence of nature and landscape. Due to its uniqueness, it is perfectly predisposed not only to the development of health resort function (that is currently most associated with), but also to the prosperity of the educational tourism, in a very wide range. The main purpose of this paper is to show fields of possibilities for such a use of Ponidzie. The study results show that the described region can easily be used in the educational teaching on different levels and fields of study. Geological variety, but also widespread gypsum karst phenomenon, and as a consequence the occurrence of many caves, ponors, karst springs, gullies, sinkholes, and ridges, make the area very valuable for geo-tourists. The occurrence of various grasslands community, halophytes, and the presence of other water ecosystems in its neighborhood, determine the possibility of bio-tourism development. Moreover, the great number of precious cultural heritage objects is also noteworthy. Despite the great quality of the place, it will be necessary to initiate dynamic educational tourism development on Ponidzie. It will require a wide information campaign and close cooperation of tourism bodies from the described area. It also seems necessary to improve the level of local residents' knowledge about the extraordinary treats of the area they live in.
