Summary/Abstract: Same as when speaking about feminism or race studies, media studies, the postcolonial studies to a large extent includes theoretical models most often used in cultural studies, as well as a specific self-understanding political engagement. In brief, they are connected with analysis of ideological discourse and discourse of power, critics of modernism and Eurocentrism and, above else, thematic focusing on subordinated and marginalized cultures or parts of the world. These studies refer to poststructuralist and postmodern theories and method of deconstruction of binary oppositions which ruled the Western way of thinking and which are embedded in the colonial project. Postcolonialism offers theoretical possibilities and concepts for interpretation of contemporary cultural flows everywhere, wherever one can speak about old and new hegemonies and various aspects of cultural resistance, which involves them in broad discussions pertaining to problems of globalization.
