Summary/Abstract: The following “Space and Nation” thematic block addresses the problematic of territoriality and the nation in (the process of) cultural representation. The selected texts explore on the one hand the theoretical space in which locality, one of the fundamental factors of national belonging, has been studied. On the other hand, the texts involve issues of interconnections between nation and territory, in particular the functioning of the dominant order of space representations of the (nation-)state, the exclusion of the “other” and the “stranger” and the process through which national identity is constructed as territorialized and rooted in territories. Most of the selected papers illustrate, based on empirical research, that studying the problematic of territoriality in national representations should be undertaken from a global perspective in a comparative fashion, taking into consideration the political as well as ethical issues of the construction of the national.
