Summary/Abstract: Through the analysis of the ceremonies of one of the national commemorations of the Hungarian Republic, the paper looks at the processes through which the official Hungarian political representatives repositioned the place of the Hungarian nation in the international scene in response to the dissolution of the Eastern Block. Throughout this process Hungarian national identity has been constructed through its naturalized relationship with the territory by discursive practices of territory representation known as national cartography.
