Summary/Abstract: Starting from four examples, the article presents in brief the contribution that South-Eastern Europe can bring to the process of European re-integration, namely, the coalescence of the three cultural strata: archaic, medieval, and modern, thanks to which Europe can re-learn its past and re-evaluate its future projects; the connection, still alive, between ear and eye, between the oral and the written cultures; the conversion of negative into positive according to the model of apophatic Orthodox philosophy; the cosmopolitan Byzantine teachings that led to a true philosophy of survival on the basis of the unvanquishable equilibrium.
