Summary/Abstract: Our paper aims at reviewing the most important aspects of internet-related research in political science, where the World Wide Web is conceptualized as a communications network. We would like to summarize how political scientists approach the importance and impact of new information and com mu nication technologies (ICTs), in particular, the internet, on the political system. Where do political scientists place internet studies within their field? How do they conceptualize phenomena that sometimes stretch the frames of mainstream political science research? In the paper we first review the responses of political science to the emergence of the internet, including the approaches of technological determinism and social determinism, and new defi nitions of no tions like democracy and participation. In addition to theoretical considerations, we touch on the internet use by politicians, parties, and other actors of political communication, pointing to the main fi ndings of relevant re search.
