Summary/Abstract: The author proposes a literary analysis of the manner in which Jewish modernism and existentialism transpire from Felix Aderca's novel "The Adventures of Ionel Grasshopper-Thermidor". Starting from relevant quotations, the article pursues the extent to which Aderca's Jewishness as an ascerted self-identity prompted him to develop his own modernist lyrical stance. The analysis allows for a more general assessment of the Jewish condition in an ethnocentric Romania.
