Summary/Abstract: As one of the most well-known creations spread over the Romanian territory,92 the balladcarol entitled “The Sun and the Moon” embodies the faith in old human practices and reveals humanity in a conflict situation generated by the clash of two different types of mentality. The behavioural model offered as a solution for the conflict is represented in Walachia and Moldavia by ballad-variants and in Transylvania by carol-variants. Different researchers and anthology authors, starting from different facts from the story, consider the ballad “The Sun and the Moon” included in mythological, mythical-fantastic and mythical-superstitious motifs.
