Summary/Abstract: The inflow of direct foreign investments (DFI) to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) was initiated by the economic reforms in 1979 in this country. The inflow of DFI was not very big in the first period and it achieved the level of 5 bln USD in 1991 but it increased as an effect of further economic reforms to the level of 110 bln USD in 2000. DFI placed in China are very diversified geographically (most of these investments are of Asiatic origin), regionally (most of them are placed on the east coast of China) and sectorally (most of them – about two thirds – are placed in the industry). The competitiveness of Chinese market with the potential of 1.3 bln consumers is still increasing and it causes that high technologies as a part of DFI are more often placed on this profitable market.
