Summary/Abstract: The consequences of the financial crisis, which burst in the United States in 2008, made national governments and deeply integrated economic groupings take complex actions to specify packages stimulating recovery. One of the fundamental areas is competition policy whose strategic aim is to protect competition against various forms of practices which eliminate, restrict or distort market rivalry. The article addresses issues, which were carried out within the EU legal system (competition regime), focusing mainly on the activities aiming at stabilisation in the banking sector. Therefore a pivotal problem is the EU legal framework for public aid programmes, supplemented with short considerations on the merger control and cartel agreements.
