Summary/Abstract: The world food crisis 2007–2008 ended three decades of relatively inexpensive food on the world agricultural commodity markets. Factors which caused the surge of food prices are multidimensional. They can be categorized as both supply and demand-driven as well as short and long-term ones. It is somehow speculative and problematic at the same time to indicate the main causes which had a direct impact on this price surge. The world food crisis 2007–2008 showed that global food chain was always imperfect and therefore it requires a deep reconstruction, especially in the area of world institutions (organizations) which are responsible for monitoring these markets.
