Low cost airlines – a new “quality” in the air transport in the European Union

Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the functioning and presence of low cost airlines, the emergence and dynamic development of which are related, in the author’s opinion, to the liberalization process on the air market. The preface presents basic information about liberalization in the US and Europe. Then the author presents the development of low cost airlines in a historical perspective on the European and Polish market. Then, he describes the impact of low cost airlines on the competition on the market and the weaknesses of their functioning.
