Summary/Abstract: In this article, we propose a curriculum that seeks to develop lexical competence in learners of French as a foreign language, in the context of Italian schools. Our goal is to show how the practical application of the lexical approach, as well as the use of appropriate strategies and dic-tionaries in a language class, can favour both the acquisition of lexical competence, as a component of communication competence, and learners’ autonomy.
