Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes nine novels of a Salvadorian writer, Horacio Castellanos Moya, written between 1994 and 2011, and indicates elements that could be considered to be paradigmatic of the current Central American narrative and its links to the topic of the recent past of the countries of the region, namely, militarisms, political violence, civil war and its consequences, as well as criminal violence and political frustration. The aspects that are analyzed are the distortion of the classic model in of the police, the possible therapeutic value of literature, and finally, the problem of collective and individual identity affected by violence.
