Summary/Abstract: The Sacred Art Festival is organised in Częstochowa. The organisers of the festival consider such goals as cross-cultural dialogue, international communication, and the acceptance of different spiritual values. There are several exhibitions which accompany the festival and art competition. In 2003, the organisers concentrated on such subjects as terrorism, war, and peaceful resistance. Also, they wanted to show art, which referred to the basic humanitarian values. Three hundred artists from different countries sent to the jurors one thousand five hundred pieces of art. Unfortunately, the majority of their work was schematic and referred to popular Christian symbols. The jurors accepted ninety pieces of art by twenty five artists which were exhibited after competition. Artists, who were given awards for their work, didn’t use banal motifs. They concentrated on religious ardour, thematic openness, and metaphysical themes. The Festival included art by important Polish artists who were inspired by Christian and Oriental cultures.
