Evolution of the implementation of sustainable development in Poland

Summary/Abstract: Sustainable development (SD) is one of the challenges of global economy. The involvement of Poland in its establishment has a multidimensional nature. The postulates of SD were already realized in Poland during the systemic transformation. Subsequent commitments and adjustments in this area were associated with the process of Polish application for the membership in the EU and negotiating its terms. An institutional support in the realization of sustainable development is supported by the activity of the Ministry of Economy and non- governmental organizations such as Fundacja Sendzimira. The implementation of the SD Strategy is currently realized in the EU under the Europe 2020 strategy and within its quantitative goals. Targets set for Poland in the national reform program are below those for the EU as a whole. However, their consistent realization should guarantee Poland an achievement of the next level of SD.
