Summary/Abstract: The article offers a periodization of the natural demographic processes in their century-long development. As a criterion for that periodization are taken the annual coefficients of the processes, the ratio between them, and their position in the overall socio-economic structure of society. Taken as a dynamic whole the natural demographic processes form the demographic situation within society. We have three periods. The third one begins in 1976 and goes on until the present day. Its last sub-period (after 1990), is the most dramatic in the whole century-long history. The comparison with twenty-seven European countries and the USA for the year 1997 shows that Bulgaria is the last but one country with respect to its birth-rate. Its mortality-rate puts Bulgaria on second position and by its natural growth Bulgaria comes last in the list. At the end are presented some prognostication data and the basic lines along which State and Society could influence demographic processes.
