Summary/Abstract: ECHOES FROM VEDA SLOVENA IN THE WEST RHODOPES: A CRITICAL VIEW ON SOME UNPUBLISHED MATERIALS FROM CONTEMPORARY FIELD STUDIES IN THE REGIONS OF GOTSE DELCHEV AND DOSPAT / This article sheds a new light on the “Songs about Orpheus”, the most controversial texts from the famous collection Veda Slovena, and shows some new unpublished materials, found by the field studies in the villages of Gorno Drjanowo and Kovachevica in August 2008. The study emphasizes the relationship between characters and anthroponyms/toponyms, between characters and local folklore motifs, located in the regions of the towns of Gotse Delchev and Dospat, and suggests some new tendencies of secondary folklorization of Orpheus there as well. The wide interpretation of Orfeus/Orphen/Orphan as a folklore code gives the opportunity to find out typical epic mechanisms of Veda Slovena and approaches on the other hand some elements of the local folklore mentality.
