Summary/Abstract: The presented to the attention of the reader chronicle is a testimonial for the stability of the genre — monastic chronicle — during the transition from the Middle Ages to Modernity in Bulgarian literature from the 18th –19th century, for the parameters of historical thinking and knowledge of the average Bulgarian from the interior of Bulgarian lands. The author obtains information about the Middle Ages and the more distant past from the surrounding ruins, from the preserved monuments, and also from legends, kept in popular memory. In the annals, together with the distinctively Christian world-view are permanently present mythological elements (omens, miracles) with whom the Bulgarian from the National Revival interprets what came about, explains the success or the failure, when other motivation is impossible, but also on principle preserves national consciousness and self-confidence in the conditions of his subjection in the Ottoman Empire. The document is also interesting and from the point of view of the fact that it does differ in its commentary and its evaluation of people and events with most of the memorial testimonials about the band of pope Hariton. The chronicle is the consecutive illustration for the desire and the striving of the Bulgarian of the 19th century to keep through the written word the memory of what is important and significant from his time and also transmit it through generations — to know.
