Summary/Abstract: Article translated by S. Hattersley. Current perspectives on the history of the Jews often have the nature of a return to a neglected topic and, with this, to an ethnicity that has irretrievably disappeared. Various written testimonies or long-since yellowed photographs usually provide an appeal for an informative look back. The book under review, however, convinces us that preserved monuments can also play the role of impulses no less successfully. This is particularly the case if – as with the Třebíč sites – they are included on the prestigious UNESCO list. The unique complex of the former ghetto and the adjacent cemetery has thus become the central topic for what to date is the most extensive insight into the history of the Jews of Třebíč.
