Summary/Abstract: This year’s annual Mikulov Symposium focused attention on the topic of ethnic minorities. Despite being limited geographically to a single country and chronologically to the pre-1918 period, the symposium attracted a large number of local and foreign researchers. The reason for the increased attendance was not only the renowned hospitality of Mikulov but also, and primarily, the wide range, urgency and, to a certain extent, the neglected nature of the selected topic under discussion. Among the influential factors should be included the actual territory of Moravia, whose central position facilitated the historical appearance of various nationalities. Last but not least, a positive role was also played by the greater range of organisers which, in addition to the regular ones, included Historische Kommission für die böhmischen Länder [Historical Commission for the History of the Bohemian Lands], Munich, the Nuremberg Samuel-Steinherz-Stiftung and Společnost pro dìjiny židù v České republice [Society for the History of Jews in the Czech Republic].
