Romania’s active role in shaping the Wider Black Sea Region as a distinct geopolitical area

Summary/Abstract: In order to strengthen and consolidate the strategic position of the Romanian Black Sea, Romania has the following priority areas: institutional harmonization and streamlining processes ongoing cooperation, of prevention competition or hegemonic temptations and establish a new framework for dialogue and cooperation involving all democratic states and organizations concerned. In this respect, Romania takes action firmly to institutionalize the Black Sea Forum for Dialogue and Partnership initiative chiefly to promote democracy and economic development, energy security, confidence, strengthening the stability, peace and security. To promote this initiative, Romania will work closely with the Black Sea countries – Bulgaria, Georgia, Russian Federation, Turkey and Ukraine with other countries in close proximity, as well as other members of the Euro-Atlantic community. Simultaneously, Romania will actively support the constitution, in this space, a Euro-region development able to facilitate cooperation with the Member States of the European Union to encourage the development of energy and transport infrastructure, and to promote trade, investment and mechanisms of market economy.
