Summary/Abstract: The extended area of the Black Sea includes three NATO and EU member states, the third state being a potential EU member, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey, the ex-Soviet republics in Europe, belonging to Moldavia and Ukraine, a great regional power, Russia and the three republics from the Southern Caucasus, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Essentially, the extended area of the Black Sea is an aggregate of security that includes the states whose security problems can not be carried out individually, without having a cooperating position from the other countries in the area. The EU expansion in Romania and Bulgaria turned this one into an important actor inside the Pontical Basin, which imposes the necessity of a coherent vision and that of a long and medium strategy for the extended area of the Black Sea.
