The Relics of St Cyril and Their Veneration throughout the Centuries

Summary/Abstract: The authors trace out and systematise different texts (liturgical, hagiographic, historical and documentary) dedicated to the relics of St Cyril. The appearance of St Cyril’s relics in the inventories of the treasury of St Vaclav’s chapel in the metropolitan church of Prague is interpreted as a phenomenon of the realization of the national doctrine of King Charles IV. A modern service dedicated to the rediscovery of St Cyril’s relics and their translation to „San Clemente“ on 17th November 1963 (introduced in the liturgical practice of Bulgarian Catholics in 1980) has been analysed and published for the first time.
