Summary/Abstract: Family life does not appear as a fundamental topic in any hagiographical work, but in the majority of texts it is possible to discover references to the relations among family members. In most of cases saint’s parents are mentioned, referring to their social status and sometimes their belonging to an ethnic group. In Slavic tradition the relation with the mother is more important than the relation with the father; stepmothers are considered negatively. The relations of the saint with the brothers and sisters or with the children are rarely mentioned. We sometimes find references to a nuptial tie, including references to an unconsummated marriage. If we consider the scarcity of sources about social life in the medieval times in the Balkans, the analysis of hagiographies from this point of view can provide a lot of interesting and valuable data.
