Summary/Abstract: The Old Bulgarian Canon for the feast of Theophany created according to the rhythmic-and-melodic model of the well-known iambic Canon for the feast of Theophany by St. John of Damascus has a place of special importance among the hymnographic works of the disciples of SS. Cyril and Methodios discovered in the last decades. The present study considers fundamental problems concerning the origin, dissemination, composition, structure, and content of the Canon. This is also the first time the publishing of the oldest extant transcript of the Canon takes place. That transcript is a part of Festal Menaion 522 from the National Library in Sofia – a Middle Bulgarian manuscript from the thirteenth century.
