Summary/Abstract: The article deals with F. M. Dostoyevsky´s prosaic work Notes from Under-ground as a manifestation of S. Freud´s term of Verzicht (surrender) in his unterstanding of the personality of the Russian writer and philosopher. The author tries to prove that the episodes in which Dostoyevsky´s hero comes in touch with Liza are an evidence of the fact, that – similar to Dostoyevsky himself – the protagonist of his Notes from Underground is not able to find a harmony between ratio (intellect) and intuition.
