Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to synthesise the distinctive features of the Turanic element within the Romanian anthroponyms and toponyms, encapsulated during their rule over the extra-Carpathian Romanian territory. The geopolitical perspective is of outmost importance emphasizing the various military and confessional forces such as the Hungarian Kingdom, the Byzantine Empire, the Italian Maritime Republics and also the several Bulgarian political entities. All these elements allow for a better understanding of the forces that shaped the Romanian nation in this respective period and also lead to the formulation of a better explanation of the conditions having led to the formation of the Romanian medieval states.
