Deictic Elements in Italian Religious Discourse

Summary/Abstract: The article presents deictic, personal, spatial, temporal and descriptive elements in Catholic religious discourse. The Homily prepared by Pope Francis on Palm Sunday is examined, with a focus on personal deixis, the use of personal, demonstrative, possessive pronouns in the Pope’s discourse, which encode the participants’ role in the verbal interaction, along with a general linguistic analysis.
