Summary/Abstract: The paper offers an overview of the surveys in the field of military sociology focused on the role conflicts and identity tensions in military officer corps. On the bases of the overview the author argues that an empirical sociological survey is needed in order to discover the preconditions of the role tensions in the Bulgarian Military (that impede the process of institutalization of a consistent officer social role). The article formulates a hypothesis that a new structure of consciousness among the Bulgarian officers exists – hyberdentity – that appeared as a result of the crisis in the Bulgarian Military.
