Summary/Abstract: The article discusses basic and characteristic features of the Polish infantry in the first part of the XVI-th century in the context of widely understood state security system. The article emphasizes research possibilities connected not only with traditionally understood military history but also the general look on the role of the army in protecting the key interests of the country. It also differentiates terminology concerning state security and national security and adopts the first as the adequate term to describe historical epochs before the creation of modern nation. The article tries to discuss the issue mentioned in the title from the point of view of the origin of the state security system.
