Fear of success: history and current development of the problem

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analytical review of the development and current state of the investigations on fear of success. Three phases in the development of the investigations are distinguished: 1) Identification of the phenomenon in the context of the studies on need for achievement; 2) Explaining fear of success in the context of psychoanalytical theories and development of psychometric methods for its measurement as a personality trait; 3) Studying structure and different kinds of fear of success. Unresolved problems concerning development, structure and different kinds of fear of success are pointed out.
