Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a psychosemantic investigation of the social representations of individualism and collectivism among Bulgarians. A detailed description of the psychosemantic method, consisting of four experiments, is given. The method revealed a dimension "individualism/collectivism" in the psychosemantic space of the subjects. A psychometric method for measuring the individualistic versus collectivistic orientation is proposed, based on seven concepts, representative for this dimension. The method, labelled Bulgarian individualism/collectivism (BIC) scale, consisits of a preference choice between the two words in every possible pair of the seven words. Validational studies suggest, that the method reveales a global value system and correlates with crucial life decisions, but not with individualistic or collectivistic behaviours in everyday social contacts.
