Summary/Abstract: The discussion focuses on the position of constructivism in contemporary literary studies, with a particular emphasis on the relations between constructivism and comparative and cultural studies. Constructivism is understood as a comprehensive research project based upon the categories of a ‘system’ and ‘empirical literary studies’, as developed by Siegfried J. Schmidt and his colleagues. In Zepetnek’s view, the constructivists’ attitudes toward hermeneutics and feminism – negative and approving respectively – form an important part of this discussion.
