Summary/Abstract: How to define a magazine, what are its key characteristics, how does it participate in the tradition and the production of culture and what are the consequences of the process of institutionalization and canonization of national literature? These are some of the important questions to which this article is trying to give an answer. In the other words, the author refers to theoretical and methodological as well as literary and historical aspects of the study of literary periodicals, analyzes the main concepts and defines the postulates of periodical theory.
