Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the influence of globalization on structural, political and cultural changes in Serbia. The focus is on the fact that the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia collapsed in the very specific global context where the process of political, economic and cultural globalization was spreading. During the 1990s in the West European countries and US the dominant ideology was neoliberalism. Economic, political and cultural neoliberalism made a consistent project whose function is to legitimize global changes. Another point were factors that generated the appearance of cultural disorders in Serbia so as to avoid a different approach toward political and cultural instability in Serbia, by which the instability was generated with an internal “disease” of the national culture and cultural tradition of the Serbs. The author also emphasized the reactualization of the notion-culture in sociology and the phenomenon that culture has become the sphere of confrontation between proponents of globalism and global culture on the one hand and proponents of the national state and culture on the other. The author concludes that cultural policy in Serbia has to confront many new problems generated by globalization.
