Summary/Abstract: The article presents a review of the normative fears in adolescence and youth literature. Theoretical treatments and empirical data are generalized concerning phenomenology, classification, age and gender differences as well as the assessment tools. Fear is considered as a normal experience, playing an integral role throughout the course of development and having and adaptive function. Its differences from anxiety as a construct with different cognitive composition are delineated. The different versions of the Fear Survey Schedules (FSS) for children and adults are mostly applied. The five-factor model proves its cross-national validity and is widely spread. It adequately reflects fear experiences that are characteristic for adolescence and youth. The necessity of studying normal fears in adolescence and youth profile and identifying their cultural specific developmental patterns is connected to the creation of supportive social environment that would facilitate young people socialization and psychic health promotion.
