Summary/Abstract: The home makeover shows on television construct the idea that by redecorating one’s home and reflecting on it, one engages in the construction of the ideal self. This paper focuses on the Finnish home makeover shows Inno and Kodin kääntöpiiri. Typically, the ways of performing gender are more explicit in their representations of self than the ways of performing class. These two series are explored as a part of contemporary television culture, which is characterized by a greater prevalence of global television formats and reality television. The paper illustrates that despite the increasing globalization of television, the national contexts and differences between national program contents are also important to explore.
